Every Sunday our Small Hall is transformed into the Community Café, which serves 70-100 homeless, vulnerably housed or lonely people.
Since 2007 the café has been run entirely by volunteers and is funded by New Community Church and City Life Church, alongside individual and company donations.
It's aim is to provide a safe and friendly environment for a free hot meal, where everyone is respected and welcomed, regardless of their beliefs, background or situation.
The café is open in the Small Hall every Sunday, including Easter and Christmas, to provide a free hot meal, dessert to those in need. Upon arrival at 4.30pm, guests can expect a hot or cold drink, with food being served directly to their tables from 5pm.
Other help is also available to guests where possible, with provisions of emergency clothing, alongside information about relevant charities or agencies.
How can I help?
There are a number of ways you can get involved and support the work of the Community Café, including:
Volunteer with us – The Café is run entirely by volunteers and relies completely on their involvement, commitment and compassion to keep it running. This can include helping with kitchen preparation, serving food, greeting guests, setting up tables and cleaning up after the guests have left.
Support financially – Any financial donations to help the smooth running of the Café are always greatly appreciated. Gift Aid can also be collected from tax-paying supporters as the Café operates within the New Community Network charity.
Provide resources – There are a number of everyday items which are particularly useful to give away to our guests and are always gratefully received. These include new and quality second-hand clothing, sleeping bags, duvets, toiletries, thermo-flasks and tinned food.
We are currently looking for both kitchen and greeting/serving volunteers.
